How the calculation works
cost per mile = total cost for the period ÷ distance driven. Six items make up the total: fuel, maintenance & repairs, insurance+tax+inspection, tyres, parking/tolls and depreciation (value at the start − value at the end). Example: 12,000 miles a year at a total of $6,000 → $0.50 per mile.
Why depreciation counts
The value your car loses is a real cost even though no cash leaves your pocket — most calculations skip it and look cheaper than reality. Insurance and tax get forgotten the same way; they run even when the car is parked. More: the true cost per mile of your car.

FAQ
How do I estimate depreciation?
Note the market value at the start of the period and the value in the same listings at the end; the difference is your depreciation. A rough estimate beats writing zero.
Do insurance and tax really count?
Yes. They are paid even if the car never moves; they are the fixed part of your per-mile cost.
Monthly or yearly?
Any period works as long as costs and distance cover the SAME period. Twelve months smooths out seasonal effects best.
Does the calculator store my data?
